SPH student killed in car accident on December 24

Chun-Yuan Wang, a first year doctoral student at the Harvard School of Public Health (SPH), died in a car accident near Mobile, Ala., St. evening. She was 25A native of Taiwan, Wang has been in Atlanta for a friend - Hsiu Wen Ling, 25, Athens, Ga. — Before the trip to New Orleans for the new year.

After Alabama state troopers, Wang was driving the car of his friend along Interstate 10, four kilometres east of the Mississippi State line at 6:20 am on December 24, when she ran on the road and met a tree.

In June this year, Wang earned a Master of Science Degree in epidemiology at the School of Public Health. This fall, she began doctoral studies on environment and health.

Wang has played an active role in the local community and Taiwan was the proximity of Taiwan students and teachers at MIT and Harvard graduate, other schools.

She was vice-president of the Republic of China Harvard Club student, the judge cultural events and other social events for undergraduates, doctoral students and teachers.

Hou Hao June, another Vice President’s Club, said Wang often helped students were to find new housing in Cambridge and settled in life on campus. He said that one can also contributed to the improvement of the Association to participate in their events.

“It has never been the star person, but she was always the best care,” he said.

Hou, the Club has declared a campaign donations to help pay for some of Wang’s friends go to Alabama in the days immediately after his death, to attend the funeral.

Hou said that the group means needed to pay operating costs of a funeral service in Cambridge the week of the accident, more than 200 people attended.

More than 50 people have contributed more than $ 4000 to the Fund.

Wang’s parents, traveled to Alabama from Taiwan after the funeral on December 28 in Mobile, conducted a Buddhist service, then came to Cambridge Memorial.

Another funeral service was on January 12 at 5:30 pm in the atrium of the SPH-Franois-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights Building, which is headquartered in Boston.
