Bill could help prevent identity theft

A bill there are applications for the next legislative session months of Alabama, to create more barriers to identity theft by the obligation of individuals prior to the approval of social security, including issues of public documents.

The bill, the sponsor, Rep. Steve Hurst, D-Munford, said men are often invited to submit their social insurance numbers, even telemarketers, if the information is appropriate or not.

He said that if the bill would not be able to deal with the permission of data, it would prevent access to public documents without their permission.

“If someone goes to the state [public information], as we shall see that the social insurance number is actually,” said Hurst. “We have a lot of people complain of the year to identity theft.”

The use of someone’s identity and financial information for purchases of vehicles or a new identity was illegal, the legislature of 2001, passage of the Consumer Protection Act Identity.
